Do we really need to take vitamin supplement daily?

Do we really need to take vitamin supplement daily?

Myth #1: it is quite expensive. I don’t feel it having any improvement because my body doesn’t have any health problem.
I agree with them. The question is “does our body really need it?” I once consulted with my family physician. She told me it is not necessary if you have balanced meal every day. Actually, I personally don’t like to take supplement because I feel that I am taking a medicine. In addition, It is not cheap. On average, a Central multivitamin costs about $30 to $40. There are so many variety and so many English jargon, terminology, I am not familiar with. In any way, I don’t find any benefit and I don’t want to waste my time to study because I am relying on my family doctor and I have no health issue.
The truth is that one of health element is to take high quality of supplement, stated by Dr. Ray D Strand, a family physician in South Dakota US. He has been practiced over 30 years. He could not bear over his wife with deteriorating health problem.  Her symptoms were continual, total body pain, overwhelming fatigue, horrible allergies and recurrent sinus and lung infections. Later, his wife’s doctor diagnosed her problem as fibromyalgia. This medical condition involves an array of symptoms-the worst being chronic pain and fatigue. There is no cure for fibromyalgia. He was desperate seeing his wife suffering for many months and tried every effort that he could think of in his profession. Later, her neighbor advised her to try nutritional supplements. Without any hope, he finally agreed to try because he felt certainly despaired with his profession. He was amazing about his wife’s symptom relieved after taking the supplements for 3 days. Gradually, his wife’s condition improved significant after three months. Finally, he admitted that his medical training didn’t have nutritional training at all. Then, he finally started to study and try to prescribe nutritional supplement to his patients with the same symptom exactly like his wife. The result was amazing positive.

Myth #2: All vitamins ingredients are similar. I can just buy the cheapest one to take to stop my worry of incurring cancer psychologically.
Roughly, there are many variety and many brands of supplements in the market. At least, there are at least thousands of brand in the North American. Which one is the best or higher potency is beyond our knowledge? As consumers, we only know just by comparing the price to differentiate them. The actual ingredients make no sense to us.

Indeed, we have no knowledge to tell which products are essential to our body because we rely solely on our family physician. We suppose that our family physician will tell us all necessity. The truth is that all doctors are trained to diagnosis and treat disease. They don’t have training to prevent our health from incurring disease. In other word, they don’t have body cells and nutritional interaction training. For example, we all have studied human biology, but we seldom know what nutritional ingredients will enhance human cells and last longer.

There are a few checklist that we, as a consumer, can look for which products has higher potency, higher quality etc. The products have to be approved by FDA, GMP, and NSF and consume Lab. In addition, there is one published book called, NutriSearch Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements by Lyle McWilliams, in Canada. It compares over 1300 supplement products in North American. It is objective to get an idea how it find the best of the products in the market.

Myth #3: personal health is my doctor’s responsibility.
We usually consult our health management with our family physician. Each physician has different opinion and different experience. Our health can’t depend on our physician because all physician talent is not created equally. Some are busy to look after their patients; some don’t have knowledge but they don’t deny your ask. We need to take charge our health not relying on them.
There are many books discussing about health eating, losing weight etc. in the library. If we are responsible to our health, we should spend some time to read and apply this knowledge into our day to day life. Some Physicians and Pharmacists and nutritional expert also publish books about fighting cancer and eating right foods to fight diabetic. I think the more the time you invest, the lease degenerate disease occurs on you. It is just like to walk outdoor rather than watching TV after dinner.  My family physician also tells me prevention costs less while disease treatment costs higher. It is our responsibility in charge of our health. To prevent disease is most important. We need to follow right healthy life style to live day to day. It is your decision. Also, you can get it.
There are three key health elements: eat health, exercise daily and take high quality supplements. Why do we need to take supplements? Two times Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling declares: "Nearly all disease can be traced to a nutritional deficiency". All diseases are as a result of nutritional deficiency. We can’t take all essential nutrition by food totally. The gap can be covered by high quality supplements. That’s why it is essential to take supplements daily.

In conclusion, lacking of nutritional knowledge and failing to choose right nutritional products and not complying with healthy eating life style as prevention are the result of living too short; dying too long.
It is your life. You can decide if you want to enjoy happy and free of pain’s life every day or you want to live the life with full medication and constipation, diabetes, allergic, osteoporosis, gout, stroke, Alzheimer’s every day. It is up to you.
